What do you think of a tattoo on the ribcage, for a girl?

I have been wanting this tattoo for a few years now, but am struggling with how big I want it to be and where I want to have it. My mom is Hawaiian and the tattoo would be of plumerias and orchids, her favorite flowers. What I was thinking is to have an orchid on the shoulder with plumerias individually falling down my side or something like it. I haven't had it drawn up yet so I'm not quite sure how that would actually look, but you get the idea. I would also like to have it mostly black and grey, with maybe two or three flowers with color. I don't have any tattoos yet, but pain is not an issue. I am also kind of a small girl, I'm 5'2", 120 lbs. So I was a little afraid of it being a little too overwhelming. I like it in that area, though, because it will usually be covered up. If you have any ideas on style, colors, or placement, please let me know. I only DON'T like tattoos in the same old places girls have them, lower back, hip, etc. Sorry so long, just wanted to have allthe detail

What do you think of a tattoo on the ribcage, for a girl?
I think its very sexy if done right. Make sure you research your artist well and be prepared to shell out a lot of cash.

My fiancee and I both got the same design up our ribs (she's got the mirror image and when we hug it makes a heart) and for both of ours it cost $900 and we got a hell of a deal...basically $450 for both without tip...of course we tipped our artist though.

The pain will be extreme...mine hurt like a mo fo and I could feel the needle rattling on my ribs...it felt wierd.

All in all....Go For It!!!! very sexy.
Reply:totally hott!! Do it if you want it...but I personally love ribcage tattoos.
Reply:I think you should get whatever YOU think looks best. I myself am a fan of flawer tattoos, so whatever you decide, I am sure it will look great :)
Reply:Love the idea. I love the show LA ink and the did a tattoo of cherry blossoms and the ribcage of the woman. She was a midget and the tattoo was so beautiful and it was up her whole side it fit her body so well. They do say however that that is one of the most painful places to get tattooed so be aware of that. But yeah you can probably find that episode of you were interested on TLC.com if you wanted to see it.
Reply:I love them and wish I had the guts to get one done there.
Reply:That sounds beautiful! But if you're going to go for color you should go all out. Otherwise the tattoo will probably look unfinished.
Reply:OMG!ITHINK THAT IS THE MOST CUTEST TATTOO IDEA!I LOVE IT!

i would get it done if i were you!

and in the summer it would look adorable with a flowered bikini with your hair in a ponytail!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE UR IDEA!!!

:)
Reply:i love rib tattoos on guys and girls, your idea sounds awesome, and i don't think it would be overwelming for your body, because it sounds rather girly. you should deffinately go for it
Reply:If I were ever to get a tattoo... it would be the same thing, on both of the sides of my rib cage. I can't handle the pain, so I have yet to do it. LOVE the idea.
Reply:jus 2 b clear "Lauren C" is rude...neways yea i think you should get it!!! itd look good and im going to get a tattoo in the next year or too prolly but if ne one has any ideas i want a blue flower
Reply:Tattoos are only for people with limited foresight. When you get older, such elaborate tattoos look horrible and removing them is prohibitive. Eventually you will regret getting this or most other tattoos.
Reply:well do u plan on having kids?? if yes, then u have a chance of getting stretch marks, and if u get ur tattoo b4 the pregnancy and u get stretch marks that go thru any part of the tattoo they will affect the tattoo...and if u wait til after pregnancy, tattooing stretch marks is really difficult...but besides that, i absolutely love tattoos and ppiercings... i have 8 tattoos and a full sleeve in progress..plus god knows how many piercings...i would love to get my ribs done but unfortunitly i have stretch marks from having my daughter, so no rib piece for me. but i say go 4 it.
Reply:I've got a 3" by 9" tattoo on my ribs and even though the pain was unimaginable it only lasted 4 hours!

Forget what it will look like when you're old, by then you wont be wanting to show your sides anyway unless your still toned, in which case your tattoo will still look great!

Go see a tattooist and get them to draw you up a design, they can stencil it on you so you know what it will look like.

Go for it but dont rely on others to choose your design.
Reply:Well i think that a tattoo is a great idea especially for your mom that is a good idea! Go for it!
Reply:i am getting paw prints up my side i think ek!
Reply:That will look great! I would totally do it, but with my job it would be impossible to do so. (Not enough time to heal) Don't let anyone tell you that tattoos are trashy! These are people that don't understand the spirtual side of it all. All my tats have some kind of meaning behind them, so to me they will always be special, even when i'm 80 years old. It doesn't even hurt that much after a while, it kinda numbs and its more annoying than painful in my opinion! Good luck, hope everything goes well!!
Reply:I have several tatts on my torso. In Hawai'i, it's a given, pretty much. However, the beach and sun will fade them, so you WILL need touchups. The dragon climbing my side from hip to underarm DID hurt, but it's beautiful. If it truly means something to you (my mom was born in the year of the dragon, and I got the ink done the year she died), then go for it. Good luck on your decision. =)
Reply:I love rib cage tattoos on women, I find tattooed women extremely attractive. it sounds like you have done the research and really thought this out so, I doubt there is anything I can really advise you on here. You should just find a good artist to do it, have them draw up something based on what you want and have them place a stencil on you so you can see the position and make any adjustments. It sounds like an intricate piece so the artist may want to do a couple of sittings, it minimizes the pain and also helps the artist from becoming too fatigued, which could lead to mistakes.

Good luck, and Happy tattooing.....
Reply:I like it! It sounds great and definitely more original than the crap most girls scar themselves with.
Reply:Well B, i am an older person, but i like tattoos, i havent any myself as i have to be careful of infections.

As Melvyn said, "better than what some girls SCAR themselves with", and as another said, "what about when you have children %26amp; have stretchmarks". Some women dont get them but you never know. It is there for life. Think very carefully before deciding, but good luck.
Reply:Tattoos, no matter where they're placed, are incredibly trashy. Also, 5'2 and 120lbs isn't small in size, only in height. You should buy a gym membership instead of getting a tattoo, that way you'll look better, not worse.
